May is National Stroke Awareness Month 

A stroke can happen to anyone at any age.  A stroke is caused by decreased blood flow to the brain.  The effects will vary depending on the part of the brain affected and the severity.  The leading causes of stroke include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity and smoking.  It is important to recognize the symptoms of a stroke by using this acronym: F.A.S.T

F– facial droop 

A-arm weakness 

S– speech difficulty 

T-time to call 911
