Ancillary Services

Laboratory

We have an on-site lab available for our patients. Our lab is open:

  • By appointment only
  • Monday through Friday
  • 6:45am – 3pm

We are able to run many tests here, but there are some tests that may need to be sent to an outside laboratory. The outside laboratory will bill you for their service. It is your responsibility to inform us if your insurance company requires use of a specific lab.

If you have a fasting lab appointment scheduled, here are your directions for fasting.

  • Fasting means that for twelve hours before your lab draw, you should only drink plain water.
  • Please do not eat anything.
  • If you take medication in the morning, please follow your provider’s instructions for the morning of your lab draw.
  • In some instances, your provider may have ordered a urine specimen. Please be prepared to give a specimen while at your lab appointment.

Please be aware that we cannot draw blood from minors (under eighteen) who are not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Bone Density Screening

EFP can test your bone density at our office.

It is a safe, painless, and accurate scan using a DXA (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry) unit. A bone density scan uses small amounts of radiation to determine the bone density of the spine, hip, wrist, or heel.

While x-rays can detect breaks in bones, they are not sensitive enough to detect osteoporosis until 25 to 40 percent of bone mass has been lost. By this time, the disease is well advanced. Your provider will review the results of your test and make any necessary recommendations.

Diabetic Education and Nutrition Therapy

EFP is proud to offer a Diabetes Education Accreditation Program (DEAP) accredited through the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES).

Our trained specialists offer group and individual educational sessions to offer support and help self-manage a diagnosis of diabetes, whether you are newly diagnosed or managing an ongoing condition.

We also offer medical nutrition therapy and other nutritional counseling to support your health and well-being. Our registered dietician nutritionist is trained to educate and advise you on nutritional issues and eating habits.

Remote Blood Pressure Monitoring

Remote blood pressure monitoring can help your provider stay informed of your blood pressure on a more frequent basis, from the comfort of your home. For some people with “white coat syndrome” or those with high blood pressure in health care settings, it can help avoid unnecessary prescription medication. For those with established or difficult to treat high blood pressure, this type of monitoring allows your provider to make timely decisions about medication doses more rapidly to help protect your health. Patients with high blood pressure who choose to be part of this program come into the office to pick up an easy-to-use blood pressure cuff. Training is provided over the phone.

This service is being provided through a partnership with Focus MD. They provide the equipment, data logging, and occasional contact with participating patients. Medication adjustment and care planning will always be done through and overseen by your provider at EFP. Our goal is to improve your overall health through increased communication of your blood pressure readings with faster feedback and more direct management.
